Letter sent by wispa Limited to Carwyn Jones
wispa Limited sent a letter to Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones AM (First Minister of Wales) today:
| Dear Mr Jones, I am writing this letter to you today in an effort to prevent Wales settling for less than it deserves. Much has been made in the Press with regard to the allocation from Mr Hunt’s office for tens of millions of pounds to contribute toward building a broadband infrastructure that will meet the pitiful aspiration of all Welsh residents and businesses being able to achieve ‘upto’ 2Mbps by 2015. We are better than that – we deserve better than that. With the right guiding hand, and the ambition to excel, Wales could lead Europe on universality of fast broadband across the entire country – regardless of location. You have it in your power today, to ask your Government to deliver a plan that will achieve universal 20Mbps or better access across the country. Welsh companies are already capable of delivering this right now. They just need some help from you. Some people will point to the BBSS (Broadband Support Scheme) and suggest that help is available. It is time someone was honest with you and made it clear that the BBSS is a broken promise. It is poorly administered, and it does not enable the access that it seeks to. The communications industry in Wales wants to deliver. Our population in Wales wants to take the service. Our business community in Wales needs fast access to compete. Do you have the ambition to make it happen? Richard Brown | |
